한양대학교 국제학부장 김연규 교수입니다.
저는 2004년 한양대학교 국제학부가 처음 설립된 이후 지금까지 국제학부에서 강의를 해오고 있습니다. 국제학부는 지난 수년간 많은 변화를 거치며, 글로벌 시대를 선도하는 교육기관으로 성장해 왔습니다.

국제학부는 국내에서 가장 선구적인 국제화 교육 프로그램 중 하나로, 모든 과목을 영어로 제공하는 것은 물론, 국제관계, 국제법, 국제경제, 국제경영 등을 학제적으로 융합한 교육과정을 통해 차별화된 학문적 환경을 구축해 왔습니다.

국제학부 졸업생들은 금융권, 글로벌 기업, 국내외 사기업, 국책연구기관, 국내외 석·박사 과정 등 다양한 분야에서 활약하고 있습니다. 특히, 글로벌 시장에서 영향력을 확대하는 다양한 산업의 대기업들은 국제학부 졸업생들의 뛰어난 영어 능력과 국제정치·국제경제·경영 분야에 대한 폭넓은 이해를 높이 평가하며 지속적으로 채용해 왔습니다.

앞으로 국제학부는 축적된 전통과 성과를 바탕으로, 국제화 교육과 연구의 새로운 모델을 제시하며 도약을 준비하고 있습니다. 현대 국제사회는 미·중 패권 경쟁, 첨단산업과 기술 혁신, 기후위기, 인도-태평양 지역의 부상, ESG 등 빠르게 변화하는 이슈들로 가득 차 있습니다. 이에 따라 국제학부는 학제 간 경계를 넘어 창의적이고 융합적인 교육을 제공하며, 우리 사회와 기업이 필요로 하는 인재 양성에 매진할 것입니다.

특히, 최근 중요한 화두로 떠오른 ESG(환경, 사회, 지배구조) 분야를 국제학부의 연구와 교육에 적극 반영하여, 지속가능한 미래를 위한 교육적 역할을 강화할 것입니다.

I am Professor Younkyoo Kim, Dean of the School of International Studies (SIS) at Hanyang University. Since its establishment in 2004, I have been teaching at SIS and have witnessed its transformation into a leading institution for international education.

Over the years, SIS has continuously evolved, solidifying its reputation as a pioneering program in internationalized undergraduate education. Not only has it offered all courses in English, but it has also provided an interdisciplinary curriculum integrating international relations, international law, international economics, and international management, fostering a unique academic environment.

Our alumni pursue careers in diverse fields, including finance, global corporations, private enterprises in Korea and abroad, national research institutes, and graduate programs worldwide. In particular, major global corporations expanding their reach in international markets highly value SIS graduates for their exceptional English proficiency and comprehensive understanding of international politics, economics, and business, leading to continued recruitment.

Looking ahead, SIS is preparing for a new era of growth by presenting a fresh model for international education and research. The global landscape is rapidly evolving, shaped by factors such as the U.S.-China rivalry, technological advancements in high-tech industries, climate challenges, the rise of the Indo-Pacific region, and the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

At SIS, we are committed to delivering creative and interdisciplinary education that transcends traditional academic boundaries. ESG, in particular, has become a critical focus in today’s society. We aim to integrate sustainability and responsible governance into our research and curriculum, ensuring that we cultivate talent equipped to meet the needs of both society and the corporate world.
